Very excited to announce that an iPad app that I’ve been working on for several years just launched in the App Store.
It’s specific for treating a condition called Amblyopia where an eye is functional, but the brain is not tuned to look through it and thus, the person is not able to see with both eyes together and often the eye turns (in or out). Even when it turns in, it’s called “lazy eye”.
Using colored 3D glasses with red & blue lenses (or red & green), we color certain shapes & letters in the app exactly so as to make them invisible to certain eyes. This forces the brain to look through the eye that is normally not used and trains it to think with the information coming from that eye.
The activities look simple, but a lot of thought went into them to ensure they forced the eyes to activate and were still fun for little kids. Some of the other apps that did similar things to this were too complicated or fast (little guys have a slower reaction time).
The app is not intended to be used by itself, but as an assist to home therapy under a doctor. It was created for my daughter (who has lazy eye) and it’s been a great way of getting in home exercises on an ongoing basis.
